The Village of Maryville is seeking a full-time operator in support of the Public Works Water Department at the Water Treatment Plant. This is a ground water treatment facility that requires an IEPA Class B water operator’s license. The position currently reports to the Superintendent of the Water Department. This performs skilled and unskilled tasks including but not limited to:
- Monitor, operate, and adjust water treatment equipment to ensure proper flow, pressure, and chemical balance.
- Perform routine water sampling and testing for chlorine, hardness, pH, and other parameters to maintain compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Record and maintain accurate daily operating data, including meter readings, chemical usage, and test results.
- Inspect pumps, motors, valves, filters, and other plant equipment for proper operation and perform basic maintenance or repairs as needed.
- Start up, shut down, maintain and troubleshoot treatment systems, including pumps, filters, and lift stations
- Maintain required treatment chemicals safely, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations, taking corrective action to maintain uninterrupted water service.
- Rotate on an On-Call list for emergency situations. On-Call shifts currently run Mondays through Sundays.
- Communicate plant conditions and issues to supervisors and co-workers through logs, reports, emails or verbal briefings.
- Follow all local, state, and federal regulations, including those from the EPA, IEPA and IDPH.
- Participate in continuing education and training to acquire and maintain required certifications and improve operational knowledge.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the plant and surrounding facilities.
Candidates for this position must have graduated from high school or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED). Preferred candidates should have relevant experience and possess an IEPA Class B Water Operators license or the ability to obtain one within 5 years of hire date. Training and classes are paid for by the village. The applicant should have knowledge of how to care for tools and equipment. They should be comfortable engaging with residents and maintaining a positive attitude when representing the Village. Candidates should have a good driving record and valid driver’s license. The selected candidate will be required to obtain a Class A CDL Driver’s license with additional endorsements as required. This position is part of a rotating on-call schedule which requires work outside of regular working hours requiring immediate action and response. The starting hourly probation wage is currently $23.40 per hour. After a 90-day probation period and successfully obtaining a Class A Driver’s license the hourly wage will increase to $26.00 per hour.
This position is 40 hours per week and is eligible for benefits including paid time off, retirement, and health insurance in accordance with the Articles of Agreement between The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 520c and the Village of Maryville.
