Description Public Hearing - OSLAD Grant Submittal
Date6/27/2007 Location Council Chamber
Time Speaker Note
6:35:25 PM Gulledge Called the public hearing of Wednesday, June 27, 2007 to order. Commented the hearing is a few minutes late due to computer problems. Explained the purpose of the hearing is to discuss submittal of a 2007/2008 OSLAD Grant application. He opened the discussion to the Board and floor for comments.
6:36:19 PM Limberg Village Trustee. Commented he would like to see this grant approved. Explained a lot of the sections of the park have been developed over the past years. Stated one of the problems is availability of parking when multiple events are scheduled, coupled with public use. Explained there is very limited parking in the main area, and this grant would be beneficial to the Village for additional parking in the near future.
6:37:05 PM Schmidt Village Trustee. Commented his opinion this is an important grant for the entire Village. Explained one of the main integrals of the request is the bridge that will link both sides of the park. Explained the park is divided almost diagonally from the north to the south by a nice lake, and a bridge would be beneficial for getting from one side of the park to the other without having to travel by car.
6:37:46 PM Bell Village Trustee. Added one his opinion that a big issue is parking for the Khoury League, as they have over 900 kids that play ball in the park. Explained there is a limited amount of parking to facilitate these games. Explained the project would add approximately 140 new parking spots, plus would make additional parking more available at Schiber Court with the addition of walking trails. Commented his opinion it would really enhance the Khoury League situation as well as other events.
6:38:28 PM Garcia Village Trustee. Commented another beneficial aspect of the grant would be to light up a ball diamond in order to utilize the parks at night, which they are not currently able to do.
6:38:44 PM Bell Village Trustee. Commented another nice item is the paving of the existing walking paths and the addition of paths that will connect different areas of the park.
6:39:10 PM Gulledge Village President.  Stated these are all projects that have been discussed off and on for at least fifteen (15) years. Explained they have never been in a financial position to consider them. Explained he knows during discussion at Caucus there were some concerns about money; however he thinks they have been working towards that goal and is sure if they are lucky enough to receive the grant, they certainly will be able to find the money and it will be well spent. Explained this is not just a Village park; a number of people use it both from the unincorporated areas and other communities. Commented he has received many compliments regarding the beauty of the park. Echoed prior comments that it is hard to find parking, hard to get from one side of the park to the other, they are cramped on ball fields, and the light project would allow for more games and possibly tie up less of the parking lots with the afforded flexibility. Commented it is an excellent project and comes as a full recommendation of the Maryville Park Board.
6:40:50 PM Gulledge Asked for other comments. There were none. He closed the hearing.

Respectfully submitted,

Thelma Long, Village Clerk
