Description Public Hearing 2002 Property Tax Levy

6:30:02 PM Gulledge Opened the Public Hearing with six persons present. He explained that this hearing was for the 2002 Tax Levy, and turned the hearing over to Attorney Wigginton.
6:30:58 PM Wigginton Explained the Truth & Taxation Act, and announced that the Tax Levy Ordinance is available for inspection by the public if anyone wishes to view it. He then proceeded to disclose the amounts levied, as follows. The amount levied for general Corporate purposes is $192,470.00.
6:32:11 PM Wigginton Went on to list the amounts levied as follows: Fire Protection - $156,000.00; Police Protection - $52,250.00; Street & Bridge - $73,000.00; Street Lighting - $34,000.00; Liability & Workers' Compensation Insurance - $60,000.00; Unemployment Insurance - $4,500.00; Audit - $5,500.00; Public Comfort - $17,639.00; Working Cash - $34,000.00; Social Security - $95,000.00; Municipal Retirement Fund - $120,000.00.
6:32:32 PM Wigginton Explained that the tax levy is based on the estimated assessed value of the Village of $83,000,000.00. The Village estimates that it's cash on hand, and the estimated anticipated tax revenue income from all sources is $5,353,820.90.
6:34:13 PM Gulledge Opened the hearing for questions from the floor.
6:34:32 PM Bell Questioned Section 3, Police Protection, and the amount $52,250.00. He wanted to know what this amount covers.
6:34:58 PM Wigginton Explained that the total amount appropriated in the Appropriation Ordinance for police protection was $790,100.00. The tax levy for police protection is in a capped area. The Village decided to levy the $52,250 to make up for any deficiency that may occur in this department.
6:35:53 PM Gulledge Commented that the Village is an Appropriation form of Government as opposed to a Budget Form.
6:36:34 PM Gulledge Asked if there were any other questions. There being none, the hearing closed.
